Thermylene® represents our family of specialty chemically coupled glass reinforced polypropylenes (PP). When chemical coupling technology is applied to glass fiber reinforced polypropylene, significant improvements are seen across a number of key physical attributes. The enhanced properties of these polymers yield an extremely attractive cost/performance balance when compared to traditional engineering thermoplastics.

Key Attributes:

The enhanced adhesion between the glass fiber reinforcement and the polypropylene matrix results in a material that exhibits the following characteristics:

• Superior knit line strength and stiffness
• Improved elevated temperature performance
• Higher creep resistance
• Enhanced toughness
• Excellent Chemical Resistance
• Enhanced Tensile Strength (nearly twice that of non-chemically coupled polymers)

The above characteristics can be adjusted to meet the performance requirements of the material’s application.

When our client’s requirements are unique enough to necessitate the development of a new specialized grade, our Global Technology Group (R&D) will work closely with you to develop a tailor-made solution to satisfy your technical needs.

Flexural Modulus:

As Thermylene® improves the ability of molded parts to resist distortion under load, it enables us to reduce the glass fiber loading for a given flexural modulus requirement. This leads to:

• Reduced part weight
• Improved surface appearance
• Reduced tool wear

Improvements in flexural modulus are particularly desirable in structural applications and pressure vessels where dimensional control under load is critical.

Heat Deflection Temperature:

Thermylene® provides a pronounced improvement in elevated temperature performance when compared to non-chemically coupled polypropylene products.

Available Grades:

Thermylene® P6 – Chemically Coupled PP

This mid-range polypropylene compound is primarily manufactured in a glass-reinforced grade.  This grade serves automotive, industrial and home appliance segments with potential overa  wide range of applications. This material is a good cost effective replacement for general purpose nylons (6 and 6/6) and is commonly used in battery trays, air cleaner housings, fan shrouds, filter housings for pool and spa, etc.

Thermylene® P7 – High-Crystalline Chemically Coupled PP

This higher end grade utilizes increased strength polypropylene raw materials. It is available in glass-reinforced and mineral filled grades.  This material is ideally suited as a replacement to nylon 6, nylon 6/6, PBT, and some instances of long fiber technology or LFT. Thermylene® P7 is commonly found in automotive and industrial applications and is used in sun roof frames, shifter bases, etc.

Thermylene® P8 -

This high end offering from our Thermylene® line is primarily glass reinforced with advanced coupling technology using high strength polypropylene materials. This material is ideal for replacing long fiber reinforced thermoplastics or LFRT, as well as polyamide 6, polyamide 6/6 and PBT. This grade is commonly used in door modules, motor housings, sun roof frames, shifter bases, etc.

Thermylene® P9 –

Thermylene® P9 represents one of our most technologically advanced line of polypropylene compounds. Not only does it have extended temperature performance, it is considerably tougher than other grades given its excellent impact strength and tensile strength. An ideal replacement for high temperature nylon 6/6, enables Thermylene® P9 to be used in applications such as air intake manifolds, an application out of reach for most polypropylenes.

Thermylene® 0600R – Recycled Content, Environmental Grade

Serving the growing market of environmental plastics, this grade utilizes technology to rejuvinate recycled polypropylene content as a filler material in automotive, industrial and home appliance segments with potential elsewhere. This material is ideal for replacing general purpose nylons (6 and 6/6). Available in glass and mineral filled grades, it is commonly used in battery trays, air cleaner housings and fan shrouds, etc.

Thermylene® EV –

This ignition resistant polypropylene can be tailored to perform in applications that require a mid to high range of performance characteristics. This mineral filled grade replaces flame retardant polycarbonate (PC), ABS, polyphenylene ether (PPE), polyamide 6, polyamide 6/6. As a lightweight material it is ideally suited to work in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and electric vehicle (EV) battery applications.

Thermylene® SWP –Stress Whitening Prevention

This stress whitening prevention polypropylene compound solves whitening or blush issues found in many high stress and impact plastic applications.  By using advanced material and compounding technology, Thermylene® SWP exhibits reduced part blemishes while maintaining excellent molded surface appearance and is well suited for furniture, automotive interior applications among others.

Our Thermylene® product line encompasses a wide range of grades. Please use our Data Sheet tool to find a grade suitable for your application.
