Thermylene P7-45FG-0790 Drives Process Innovation.
Thermylene® P7-45FG-0790 was nominated for the Process Enabling Category with the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). This high-crystalline polypropylene resin was first featured in the 2010 Cadillac CTS, but its use in this application has expanded into the 2011 Chrysler 300, 2011 Cadillac DTS and the 2011 BMW X3.
The uniqueness of Thermylene® P7-45FG-0790 has enabled Inalfa Roof Systems to consolidate what has traditionally been a four-part metal/plastic sunroof assembly into a single, molded frame.
The impact of this change has been felt across a number of production areas. As compared to earlier assemblies, the overall part weight has been reduced by 315 grams (11%). Through material innovation it was also possible to realize a piece price savings of 24.5% and a 48.7% capital investment reduction. Finally, Thermylene® P7-45FG-0790 made it possible to save approximately 20% in lead time savings.
The sunroof assembly featuring Thermylene® P7-45FG-0790 is just one of several product nominations showcasing polymers developed by Asahi Kasei Plastics.
